Walking into the kitchen one bright sunny morning and spotting a big line of marching ants can ruin anyone’s day. Where did they come from? Why are they invading my space and making my skin crawl? To me, ants are ALMOST, I say almost, as bad as mice. They get into everything and quite often it’s hard to find just where they are coming from.
For us, ants are something we have dealt with on and off for years in our home. And oddly enough, we have also dealt with them in the winter. Why? Don’t they normally go dormant during the winter? What makes us so special for them to grace us when normal households don’t have to worry about them?
Happily, we have been ant free for a bit, but I am going to do everything in my power to keep it that way. I do not like ants. I imagine you lovely people do not like ants either, at least in our homes.
When trying to combat those pesky ants, I’ve only found using a combination of things will rid them out of the home. Because I have found what works for me, I wanted to share my little tips to rid your home of those pesky ants starting today.
How to Get Rid of Those Pesky Ants
Vinegar and Water Wash
The first thing you’ll want to do is do half vinegar and half water rinse all over. Give your areas a good fresh cleaning with this combination as your first step in kicking those pesky ants to the curb. It gives you a nice clean surface and ants hate vinegar. This is only the first step though. As much as ants do hate vinegar, I have found that after a time they become indifferent to it and will ignore it. This may not be the case for all types of ants but from the ones that kept invading our home they said whatever and marched on.
Combat Max Ant & Roach Killing Foam Spray
Now that we have the first invasion somewhat down, it’s time to keep them away. This Combat Max Ant & Roach Killing Foam Spray kills ants & even roaches (if you have issues with them too). In addition, it takes care of crickets, scorpions, and silverfish on contact. We have had issues with silverfish too, so keeping those out would be a grand addition with our pesky ants.
Not only does the Combat Max Ant & Roach Killing Foam Spray kills them on contact but it dries invisible and keeps killing German Cockroaches for up to 10 months on non-porous surfaces.
What is nice about this product is that when you are spraying you know where you have gone because it foams to show where you have sprayed. But within minutes it dries so you have no visible product that is left behind. It expands into cracks and crevices to get all those creepy crawlies that are hiding. I know of nothing else like it.
Make sure when spraying in living areas that you keep it away from pets and children. Also, do not spray where you’ll eat. Cover things before spraying, as it is a poison.
Find all the little hiding areas where little bugs tend to hide and crawl from. For us, our areas are under the kitchen sink, which I sprayed well along with the basement, especially the crawl space. We haven’t yet but I also think we’ll spray in the attic, as our bedroom tends to get little bugs too at times.
Planting Mint
The last thing we have personally done and you may want to as well is plant mint. We have two different mint plants planted on the side of our house by our pantry area. Protection you don’t have to think about!
Hopefully, these little tips will help you keep away those pesky ants plus those other annoying bugs that invade our home.
What have you used to keep those ants away? I’d love to hear it or what tip today you found the most helpful.
