Sleep. Gosh, I love sleep. And normally, sleep is my friend, and I have no problems sleeping at all. My normal bedtime was a little off, but I still got solid sleep. I’d crawl into bed from 11 to 12 and go to sleep by 1 or so. Waking up anywhere from 8 to 9. Now, that isn’t so much the case. I’ve had issues since I’ve become pregnant, even before I knew I was pregnant. I thought it would be great to tell you how I am trying to achieve good sleep now that I am not sleeping well.

This whole not getting solid sleep is completely new to me. I don’t do well on so little sleep or broken sleep. Yes, I know this is only the beginning for a bit, but now I should be getting the best sleep I can be. And I am doing my best to do just that. Following are the ways I am trying my best to get the much-needed sleep I need now.
How I am Trying to Achieve Good Sleep Now
Sharing these tips tells you how I am trying to achieve good sleep and may help you if you are having issues sleeping. We desperately need a new mattress too, which isn’t helping matters on trying to get some solid sleep right now. Hopefully, a new one will appear before the baby comes if all goes well. Please cross your fingers for us. Until then, this is what I am doing.
Naps
Honestly, I’ve never been shy about taking a nap if I feel I need one. But now I take them almost every day. And I take them with no guilt. Probably because I feel so much better once I get up and get other stuff done after it without feeling so drowsy. There are days I have to pick between getting a walk-in (which I also know I need) and just taking my nap. The nap often wins. However, I’ve been good about the walks, too, just not as good as I probably should be.
C-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow
Even back in December, when I was having issues sleeping and thought the possibility of pregnancy was there, I looked up pillows for pregnancy. My whole body usually aches anyway, but it’s even worse now. And as I said, we need a new mattress badly, so that wasn’t helping matters at all.
In March, I finally broke down and ordered this c-shaped pregnancy pillow I had been eying. It’s huge and awkward but has made a huge difference in my sleep. Somehow it’s been helping my hips from aching so much. It’s good even to use while sitting on the couch or bed. It supports and elevates in the best way. I am a huge fan.
It does take up so much of the bed and I feel bad about that. Poor Roxy has only a little space between Jason and I right now. She makes do at least.
I love it so much that I wish I had two. One for downstairs and one for our room. That is saying something huge I think.
Baths
I’ve always been a huge fan of baths but even more so nowadays. I take one quite often before bed and make sure to pin my hair up, so I don’t have to wash it too. It not only helps with all the aching I am feeling but also helps me sleep more soundly. Especially adding in this essential oil bath & other varieties of Epson salts. I think that baths will become even more regular as I go on. Heaven.
Lotion
After my bath and showers, the lotion has always been a thing, but I take more comfort in it now. If that makes any sense, I think it tunes down my body, even more, knowing it’s time to relax and get some good sleep. I don’t use any certain lotion, just my old stand-by favorites. It’s just the act of putting it on and absorbing. Soothing, I’d guess I’d say.
So those are the things I am doing to try and achieve good sleep. The new mattress will hopefully be coming sooner rather than later. I’ll make sure either way to highlight it on the bedroom refresh series I’ve been doing in the Our House segment of the blog. So stay tuned; you’ll be the first to know!
