Twenty years ago, as of June 21st, in a tiny little town in Washington state, we got married. Jason and I were prepping for the big day on this cute little farm in different locations. Who knew what life would throw at us in those next twenty years? We celebrated our 20th year of marriage and our 25th year together. Significant milestones on both dates. How did we end up spending our 20th Anniversary? It’s not exactly how we imagined, but still excited to share it with you all.
*I started writing this post shortly after our trip but lacked the motivation to finish it. It’s now early 2024, and I decided I was going to wrap this up and post it. Writing and publishing this in hopes it’ll help my motivation and experiences for 2024*
I didn’t intend to get this wrap-up post about our 20th anniversary up so much after our trip. My mind seems to have difficulty focusing on writing stuff up lately. Plus, August and most of September have been super busy for us, so finding time and energy to sit down and write has been challenging. Yet, here I am, finally trying to get the post up.
Are you ready to see our little, and I mean little, adventures for our 20th Anniversary in the Westport, Washington area?
Our Lovely 20th Anniversary in the Westport Washington Area
Full disclosure: I had been trying to get a few different places to host us for our anniversary since the beginning of the year. I had the idea of showcasing each location and looping them all together. It was going to be lovely and fun. Nothing panned out, though; surprise, surprise!
Instead, we changed our route at the last minute and had my sister and brother-in-law join us for part of our adventure. We were lucky enough to find a super cute Air BnB in the Grayland, Washington, area that was affordable and looked like the perfect retreat.
Let’s go!
20th Anniversary Adventure
Arrival
Arriving at the Airbnb in Grayland, Washington, on June 20th was an easy drive, so we arrived right around check-in time, which was perfect. We were delighted with our rental right from entering. It was just as pictured, and our favorite room was the kitchen/dining area. It was fantastic.
The living room was comfortable, though there was a tiny bit of lack of lighting in the evenings. The bedrooms were comfortable. The bathroom was great, but again, there was a bit of a lack of proper lighting in the evenings, which, when you are an evening showerer, is a bit annoying. We were pleased with our place overall and would happily recommend it to others. And would stay again ourselves. You would never believe it was an older trailer. They have put so much heart and comfort into it.
Other Rentals in the Area
Our host has a few different rentals right in that area – all well taken care of and, I am sure, just as delightful. A Vintage RV in the same area as the place we stayed. Another trailer in that area that they have done amazing things with inside.
Sightseeing Around Westport for our 20th Anniversary
As mentioned in the beginning, while this was a vacation – it didn’t really feel like one. We can’t do adventures and sightseeing like we used to. With Roxy not being as mobile & Lily being two, it was a challenge to get out and see things and explore.
That said, we got a few things in and are looking forward to this year’s adventures.
We tried the beach on a sunny but windy day, and that didn’t go well. Roxy couldn’t get enough gripe to enjoy her beach time as she had in the past. And Lily was over sand being thrown in her face. So we packed back into the car fairly quickly on our one beach adventure on this trip.
Mermaid Museum/Westport Winery
It is a fun little place to dive right in about all things mermaids. They had a stunning paper mache of a mermaid when we were there that took my breath away. The cost is $3, and children under 5 are free – Families are $10.
As a bonus, it’s next to (and part of) the Westport Winery. It is an award-winning winery with a fantastic distillery (we actually joined the liquor subscription while we were there and tasted; everything we tasted was super tasty!)
Open daily, 11 am to 6 pm. 1 South Arbor Road, Aberdeen, WA 98520
Westport Aquarium
A tiny aquarium located in the heart of downtown Westport. Adults are $8, Child/Senior is $6, and Children 3 and under are free. This probably wasn’t my favorite aquarium; truthfully, I gasped at the cost. It’s your basic fish to look at and get close to.
It’s nice to note they were also pet-friendly, which was a nice change of pace. Even half blind, Roxy enjoyed spying on some fish.
Hours vary, so keep an eye on Westport Aquarium’s Facebook for their hours as they tend to vary. 321 E Harbor St Westport, WA 98595
Rusty Scuppers Pirate Dazes
We also had the pleasure of being there on the weekend of Pirate Dazes. The streets in downtown Westport are filled with vendors and all things pirate! It was pretty fun, and we hope to attend again this year. It runs at the end of June – starting Friday and running through Sunday!
Ending our Vacation
Those three were our big little adventures on this 20th-anniversary vacation. We mostly stayed around the trailer & did a little bit of driving. Jason and I were able to sneak for a few hours one evening while my sister stayed with Lily. We popped into the Shoalwater Bay Casino in Tokeland, just a bit down the road from Grayland. That was fun and an excellent little time away from the Lily monster.
We ended our vacation on the last evening in Grayland with a nice little fire in our little firepit at our vacation rental.
Finally, you have it, our 2023 June 20th Anniversary vacation! I hope you enjoyed it and find something you may take on your next vacation. As always, feel free to leave me a comment with any questions, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Until our next adventure!
