We love watching our mystery/crime shows. It can be factual or dramatic. Please give us all the crime shows. So when I saw Tryazon offering a game night with the Asmodee USA game, Chronicles of Crime – I knew I had to give my hand at hosting a game night again. So get on your thinking cap and join us as I explain why crime sleuths unite over this fantastic game.

Jason and I still love games, don’t get me wrong, but we find zero energy right now to sit down and play them. When we get Lily down in the evening, we are exhausted. Only wanting to retreat into our corners and zone out. Pushing ourselves to get a game night in after we get her down is needed. And such a nice change of pace.
While we were supposed to have other people play the game with us, we couldn’t rally anyone. Instead, we finally pushed ourselves to play Monday night, the 8th of May, after getting Lily down.
Crime Sleuths Unite – Chronicles of Crime Game by Asmodee USA
Chronicles of Crime is a mix of a board game & an application on your phone. A unique twist, I think, and honestly takes a little bit to get used to. You don’t play a board game often and must follow the story on your phone.
While it can be played with one to four people, it can also be played in teams for more players. And yes, you read that right, you can play solo, which I think is fantastic. Starting age is roughly 12. Each game takes anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.
Jason and I didn’t read the instructions or open the box before sitting down to play. Which probably would have been helpful, but again we are lazy when Lily isn’t around. It was reasonably quick to pick up once we got going. And got the right story for the starter pack.
You pick the case on your application, which tells you the story of the crime. Then it gives you suspects to talk to from the deck, which you scan with your phone to hear what they say about the crime. Putting those people on the board for reference.
You then look over the crime scene, finding clues from an interactive scene on your phone. Of course, with those clues & what the suspects have to say, you move on and on until you think you have the crime solved.
Jason and I only played the tutorial this go around. It gave us a good game feel and was quick to play.
Overall, we enjoyed the game, and it shows great potential. The starter game and box will hold the expansion packs that are available as well, which I loved. Buying the expansion packs means you don’t have to have another box to store. Bonus points, I believe.
To be noted: The crime scenes can also be viewed with VR glasses to make the scenes come alive more.
