September Didn’t Like Me – Here is the How & Why

Oh my gosh. You guys, let’s be blunt: September was hard for me. So hard. I had such high hopes that Lily would start school and I could dive right into creating and feel more productive. September said, jokes on you – I shall laugh in your face. September didn’t like me. Learn the why, and let’s help start my actual work.

My plan was to take a week, maybe even two, to relax and do whatever I pleased once Lily entered school. I would say those first few days, I was fine; I could enjoy the quiet and recharge a teeny tiny bit. But then September said watch this!

Why September Didn’t Like Me?

At the beginning of September, I got some kind of cold. The cold/aches I had at the beginning seemed to be gone, so I didn’t worry too much about the cough itself, since coughs linger anyway well after the sickness has left the building.

But then I felt sick again. I started to worry that something was seriously wrong and I should maybe go to the doctor. What the heck is happening to my body? Because a lot of the time it was just a lingering cough, we still were able to do things and enjoy “life”. We’ll take a look back at what happened in September before moving forward with some other blog posts.

Now looking back, I am pretty sure it was just the lingering cough, but then I caught something else for my body to battle back from. Better now; that is all that matters, but it was rough.

Lily at School

Lily is seriously in love with school. She loves her teacher, and she’s making friends like crazy. The first few weeks, she would sometimes end up asleep with me on the couch after school. And she isn’t a napper anymore, at all, ever.

A couple of times, I tried to keep her home from school because she seemed under the weather, but she fought me on it. And so far, Lily has won, but if I know she is seriously sick, she will stay home.

We had curriculum night at her school, and I spied her little leaf name artwork, so I had to snap a picture. I love that she is loving school like she is. Hopefully she’s doing well in it, too.

Professional Soccer Games

Lily had the great pleasure of attending her first soccer games in September. First, we attended the Portland Timbers game with Grandpa. Then we went to the Portland Thorns, just the three of us.

She was completely giddy over attending and also loves riding TriMet. We have done it a handful of times since then, and she gets so dang excited. Plus, she is starting to learn the colors for the different lines. She’ll be a TriMet rider in no time.

Memories were made.

Dave’s Hot Chicken

I was beyond thrilled to be invited to attend the pre-bash for the new Dave’s Hot Chicken opening in our area. It was yummy and not overly crowded, which was nice. We did arrive later in the event hours, but still. We were lucky enough to snag a seat outside, at least to enjoy our food & get pictures.

My Birthday

The curriculum night at Lily’s school was on my birthday. After learning what the new year held, they provided dinner outside, but we opted to eat out instead. It was MY birthday after all. We stumbled into La Frontera downtown. But I was a sad birthday girl because the main reason I wanted to go there wasn’t offered for dinner- only happy hour. I had no idea.

We still enjoyed our dinner. I got a few little gifts and was a pretty happy birthday girl.

Overall September Thoughts

So looking back, September wasn’t awful, but not feeling well most of the time really dampened my feelings about September.

Now I am feeling so much better (still cough here and there), and I had a HUGE horrible migraine yesterday. But here I am, showing up and ready to grow in my own roots again.

Next up is a post about a new Garfield video game. Stay tuned!
